Becoming LekicKa

Growing up, I was told to study hard, get good grades, finish university, find a stable job, get married, have children…

No one ever explained why. And I never stopped to ask.

So, I began. Studying hard to be amongs the top students, constantly taking on extra activities and responsibilities. I was active in youth and non-governmental organizations. I completed my degree in Financial Management in record time with a high GPA and continued investing in my professional education ever since. I entered the corporate world, worked hard, and gradually climbed the ladder to senior finance and leadership positions.

Somewhere along the way, I also became a wife and a mother.

By most definitions, I was successful. Which meant I was supposed to feel fulfilled.

What no one saw were the emotions behind the story.

The constant pressure of feeling that I was never enough. The belief that I could always do more, achieve more, be more. The guilt of being away from my family while spending endless hours working. The exhaustion of fighting battles that were already lost. The slow suffocation of authenticity in order to fit into systems and expectations.

And eventually, the toll it took on my health — to the extent that it brought me dangerously close to death.

While lying immobilized in a hospital bed, I heard a doctor quietly say from the hallway:

“Take her to another ward. Let her die there.”

My eyes filled with tears. Anger rushed through my body. Although I could barely move, adrenaline lifted me from the mattress, at least for a moment. I had no strength left and could barely speak.

But through clenched teeth, I whispered:

“I will survive.”

And I did.

Unfortunately, I quickly forgot those words and returned to my old habits. Because that's all I knew, and people easily revert to what is familiar and comfortable, even if it is painful.

Then, on one very ordinary, rather gray day, I came across a sign:

“At any given moment, you have the power to say: this is not how my story ends.”

And suddenly, the questions would not stop.

What is my story? What was the point of everything I had built so far? Where am I? Where do I actually want to be? What do I want to leave behind? And is this how I want my story to end?

I realized that one of my deepest needs is contribution. And my positive intention was much simpler than I had imagined - to genuinely enjoy and appreciate life.

And something became clear.

LekicKa was never truly “created.” In many ways, she had always been there.

Present in every moment of mentoring, supporting, listening, advocating against injustice, and protecting the vulnerable and voiceless. I realized I had always believed in the goodness of people and in the positive intentions behind even the most complicated behaviors. I had always seen the potential in people clearly, helping them uncover the needs beneath the masks — even the ones they could not yet recognize for themselves.

Everything I lived through, personally and professionally, shaped the way I work today.

The corporate world taught me discipline, organization, strategic and critical thinking, resilience, and persistence in finding creative solutions. Life taught me humanity, humility and a very necessary sense of humor.

And today, I know — all of it happened so I could help you.

I see you clearly.
With me, you start anew.
No faking.

And by doing so, I finally get to live my story.

From the heart,

LekicKa
